P.S. I can't let somethng unknown (origin of the music) go by without doing my favorite thng next to reading and validating, i.e., research, so I did some googling and found the info below. Thanks for the unspoken challenge, Ann. grin Cindy P.S. I haven't finished reading my mail so I hope I'm not repeating what someone else has already done. Information Lyrics The origin of the tune is not known. It does not appear earlier than around 1770. The words are Ben Johnson's poem, "To Celia," written in 1616. According to the Oxford Companion to Music, the tune cannot be traced back beyond about 1770. Best Loved Songs of the American People states the tune is sometimes attributed to Mozart, but that there is no verification of the fact. Sir Walter Scott used the tune for a song County Guy. The tune has also been credited to Colonel Mellish. However, that is unlikely as he is believed to have been born in 1777. Grattan Flood asserted that he had seen an edition of the song dating from about 1803 with Henry Herrington of Bath (1727-1816).* WISH LIST (CALLED REQUESTED ADDITIONS TO THE BOOKSHARE COLLECTION)IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.friendsofbookshare.org/wish_list/wish_list.htm www.lljfm.net/bookshare/home.htm A LIST OF BOOKS CURRENTLY BEING SCANNED IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.friendsofbookshare.org/ www.lljfm.net/bookshare/home.htm To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
