Hi all.

Those of you who have been around this list long enough to remember my
ramblings from previous periods, will remember that I have been a long-time,
confirmed FineReader user. While that hasn't changed, (yet), I just have to
say that the last two books I scanned I use Kurzweil 1000 and they were
beautiful scans! I hope Steve Baum is still monitoring this list because
he's a nice guy and he has worked so hard to listen to and incorporate
suggestions made by users of the product.

Before FineReader, I used OpenBook beginning way back when it use to be
EasyScan. FineReader was such an improvement over that, that I never
upgraded my OpenBook after discovering FR. Then, a couple of years ago, my
employer purchased Kurzweil and although I used it for the quick
scan-and-recognize function for reading mail and short documents, I still
pulled up FR when there was serious scanning to be done. Lately, however, a
bout of laziness has created problems for me with my FineReader. It works
fine on my desktop, but for some reason, when I use it from my laptop, the
scan drags significantly and takes forever. Instead of figuring out why
this might be, or instead of hooking up my desktop and using it, I opted to
try Kurzweil which, although it's on my laptop, too, doesn't drag while
scanning and is every bit as fast as FR. So in doing this, I necessarily
learned the finer points of setting K1000 to do what I wanted it to do to
get a good scan, and wah-lah! It works beautifully!

Just thought I'd share and give credit where credit's due!

Peace and Hope,

Donna
