I need to update my story below due to the kindness and concern of both KY and TN lists who've let me know that tho I was sure I have purple finches nesting here, I was in error. after actually paying attention to the birds I see no white striping on the female's head tho I still think they look raspberry rather than orange however I only see them in the shade of the porch roof so I defer to you all and now am SURE I have house finches which as you say is FAR more likely and in fact certain! great learning tool these bird lists-thanks to you all for setting me straight. I'm waiting now to see when he'll bring his mate to the nest for this winter's shelter. it is great fun watching "my" purple finches. jan flynn, almo in calloway county, KY =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
