I actually use 4:1 in my feeders most of the time, though I have used
3:1 on occasion and it seems to work just as well. I'm not sure if I
said 3:1 or 4:1, but I guess it got printed 3:1. I was confused when I
read it too. If 4:1 has been working for you, I'd stick with that.

In the Outdoors Notebook column in the CJ today, state bird biologist
Kate Heyden suggested a 3:1 water/sugar ratio for feeding hummers. We
have always read that 4:1 was the appropriate ratio and have used it
quite successfully.
Is 3:1 better?
