On Friday evening toward dusk, we observed about 15 common nighthawks swooping and dancing about, mostly over our neighbor's yard. He waters his yard constantly, and probably has attracted lots of insects. I've seen very few nighthawks, and certainly never a group like this. Their acrobatics were wonderful, and at times one would swoop just over our heads. I assume these birds were migrating. How common is it to see groups of nighthawks performing in this way? (P.S. Tried to post this earlier and it came out garbled. I can't tell you why. Hope this works.)
