I have at least 2 WT sparrows around my house. I here one singing constantly, and I saw one this morning (while the other was singing) coming to my feeders. I've also heard at least one in the downtown area around the Rupp Arena parking lot, singing his little heart out. I expect they will be heading north soon… (Haven’t seen a junco in a while) From:ask-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ask-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Marsh, Scott Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 7:44 AM To: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; ask@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ask] COOPER'S HAWKS I had a pair of immature Cooper’s Hawks in and about the yard last night. They chased each other high and low, in and out, with lots of vocals. I assume their antics were courtship, but they were not mature birds. How long does it take for them to get adult plumage and to mate? My chickens were flattened to the ground during their presence. I doubt a Cooper’s would take an adult chicken, but the Red-tailed that was eyeing them over the weekend most certainly had food on her mind. Scott lexington
