Many of you may already know, but Wayne Davis died on March 16th. Dr. Davis was
a pioneer in the '70s and '80s rehabilitating bluebird populations throughout
the region (and beyond). In fact his expertise extended beyond bluebirds, even
beyond birds. I missed his obituary

in the paper on Friday, but saw a more extended eulogy

I only met Wayne once. Shortly after moving to Lexington in '08, my new-found
interest in birds led me to cross paths with a mutual acquaintance. She asked
if I'd like to accompany Dr. Davis while he checked on prothonotary warbler
boxes he had created and installed at Shaker Village. I won't recount the whole
encounter, but it was memorable, not least because I saw my life-bird
prothonotary warbler!
