12/28

After the rain & storms this morning I headed out to check out the Sloughs.
8:30AM 52º, overcast, very windy, temp. later falling to 46º and mist and rain starting at NOON

The Tundra Swans were present south of 268, I counted 47 or 48! (Yesterday I went to Bluegrass FWA
in Vanderburgh Co. IN, NE of Evansville and saw 10 there.)

Present also were Snow Geese, Greater white-fronted geese, and Canadas.

Ducks: Mallards, Black duck, Gadwalls, Pintails, Am. Widgeon, Shovelers, Redheads, Ring-necks.

Very few ducks at Anderson Pond: just some Ring-necks.

I checked the wooded portion of the Sloughs that is still open and got a Sharp-shinned Hawk perching and moving and perching in the trees
looking for a meal. Available for him were Ruby-crowned and Golden- crowned kinglets, Carolina Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatches,
Carolina Wrens, Robins, Rufous-sided Towhee, Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-throated Sparrow and the first Brown-thrasher I've seen in quite a while.

Next I went to Grassy Pond/Powells Lake Unit. I added Brown Creeper, Tufted Titmouse, Winter Wren and saw
both Kinglets again, more Yellow-rumped Warblers, Swamp & Song Sparrow.

Onto Highland Creek Unit: added Red-headed Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker,
Pileated Woodpecker; and another Carolina Wren and more Robins.

By this time it was starting to mist and drizzle so I headed for home. As I passed by the Sloughs again the Tundras were still present at noon.
