This morning our first yard bird was a pileated woodpecker on our peanut feeder. It has appeared several times this winter after a hiatus of about 3 years. Later this morning we found 4 sandhill cranes on US 150 just beyond the 127 bypass. They stayed about 45 minutes until a red-tailed hawk came by, then left. We also saw red-winged blackbird. We have had both red and white breasted nuthatch this winter--the redbreasted has been fond of peanuts, safflower seed, and sunflower seed in our yard.
