While looking at shorebirds on Friday, I came across a bird that looked like a Mottled Duck on the slough on the eastern 1/3rd of Horseshoe Road in western Henderson County (DeLorme p. 44, Block A-1). I took some photos which Dave Roemer is doing an analysis of. He is in agreement that the bird shows some characters of Mottled Duck, but he needs to look at some other photos. If anyone is out that way, keep your eye out for this duck, which from a distance looks like a female American Black Duck, which is all it might be????? I did not see the speculum, which could provide more clue to the identity of this bird. It was in loose company of a pair of Mallards and was sleeping on the far (eastern) side of the slough about 1/2 way from north to south end. This area is private land so tread lightly if crops get planted in the surrounding fields! bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
