I met some friends at Jefferson Memorial Forest at the Horine section for a
day of hiking around 3:00 pm today. While waiting for arrivals I took a
quick stroll back to the feeders in the boy scout area? and found exactly
one Pine Siskin, the only one I have seen this year. In the parking area
there were numerous FOS Chipping Sparrows and PIne Warblers. Along the
trail which we hiked for 3 hours we heard a few Pine Warblers and nothing
else; no waterthrushes in the creekbed, no Yellow-throated Warblers in the
Sycamores, and no Blue-gray Gnatcatchers to be heard.
I also had two Barn Swallows at the bridge over Crittenden Drive on the
backside of the UPS property.
