This morning I banded an immature male Rufous Hummingbird at Ft. Thomas in Campbell County. It has been coming to feeders in the yards of Allen & Donna Law and Mike & Judy Grainger all winter (they are neighbors and have "shared" the bird the entire time!). I just found out about this bird a couple of weeks ago when Eddie Huber & I ran into the Laws and Graingers while birding at Meldahl Dam. It has taken until today to get our schedules and the weather all in alignment. I failed to remember to ask the hosts if visitors were welcome, so I will check on that tomorrow. This is the 10th confirmed Rufous in Kentucky for the fall/winter of 2012-2013. An 11th bird at Lexington disappeared a couple of weeks ago before we were able to get by and band it, but nice photos clearly show a Rufous/Allen's, most likely an imm. female. A few other birds have also disappeared lately, but as of about a week ago, wintering Rufous in the following counties were still present: Barren, Campbell, Hart, Pike, Pulaski, and Wayne. The 11 birds is a new high water mark for the state in a single season. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
