Brainard Palmer-Ball, Mary, and I went to Meldahl and Markland Dams today.
Best find was the red-necked grebe that Brainard spotted a quarter- to
half-mile below the dam at Meldahl, likely a first-winter bird, judging from
Sibley. Several pictures digiscoped. Also at Meldahl: peregrine falcon, 3
ruddy ducks, and many ring-billed gulls. Adult and juvenile bald eagles in
the area (near Foster).

Markland Dam had a common loon and a horned grebe, ring-billed gulls plus 1
herring gull and a dozen or so Bonaparte's.

Also found Matt Stickel's female/imm. black scoter above the Falls of the
Ohio in Louisville at dusk. An estimated 1,000 gulls came in to rest in the
middle of the river, but it was too dark at that point to study them.
