Here are complete highlights. 14 observers in 6 parties. 71 species; an immature Golden Eagle along the Ohio River bottoms west of Brandenburg and 2 Short-eared Owls east of Flaherty were likely count firsts; waterfowl numbers/diversity actually WERE above average due thanks to an unfrozen Doe Valley Lake which held 9 spp of waterbirds including 1 Common Loon, ca. 1500 Mallards and a few others including No Shoveler and Canvasback; 8 Northern Harriers (most at a roost site in tall grass northeast of Flaherty); all 7 woodpeckers; a Loggerhead Shrike (1st on count in several years); 6 Red-breasted Nuthatches; 70 Yellow-rumped Warblers; 14 Chipping Sparrows; 8 Purple Finches; and a Pine Siskin. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
