Amy and I ventured into the cold wind yesterday ... at least long enough to
do a few scans of the Reformatory Lake (Buckner) and Crystal Lake (La
Grange) from within a few feet of the vehicle. Surprisingly, both lakes were
still almost completely free of ice!
Snow Goose (4 at Reformatory)
Canada Goose (2000+? at Reformatory -- most were feeding up on hillsides and
not easy to see; 500+ at Crystal)
Cacking Goose (nice study of one at Crystal)
Mallard (50 at Reformatory; 250 at Crystal)
Am Black (4 at Reformatory)
Gadwall (25 " ")
Canvasback (2 " ")
Redhead (4 " ")
Ring-necked Duck (4 " ")
Greater Scaup (1 female " ")
Lesser Scaup (1 " ")
Bufflehead (3 " ")
Ruddy Duck (4 " ")
Female merganser (Red-br, we think) (1 " ")
