After Christmas lunch, I ran down to the river, where my timing arriving at
the jeffersonville waterfront was perfect as a birder leaving alerted me to
the presence of a surf scoter. The river was quiet other than a few scaup,
canvasback, bufflehead and a pair of goldeneye. Peregrine falcon and bald
eagles were in evidence. At dusk I visited a wetland that produced at
least 80 rusty blackbirds. The list throughout the day:
