We had some PURPLE FINCHES at our feeders today. They have been very scarce this year, but as usual the HOUSE FINCHES have been numerous. Among the PURPLE FINCHES was one which looked different. It had the beautiful purplish-rose color over most of its body, but it also had a wide white wing bar or epaulet. I had never seen this before, so I tried to get a photograph. But that particular bird was very skitterish and it would fly whenever I went outdoors. If the bird returns tomorrow, I will try again to photograph it.
