This morning under clear and sunny skies and 37 degree weather, eight members and guests of the Beckham Bird Club gathered at Joe Creason Park and the Louisville Nature Center to look for birds. Highlights included singing Brown Thrashers, mating Carolina Wrens, calling Red-shouldered Hawks and a Golden-crowned Kinglet responding to the newly acquired "pishing" skills of the members, courtesy of Pete Dunne. A pair of Eastern Phoebes were gathering nesting material at their favorite bridge. And Tufted Timouses filled the woods with "peter, peter, peter". The bird list totaled 30 and included: Canada Goose Mallard Turkey Vulture Cooper's Hawk 2 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Mourning Dove Red-bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Pileated Woodpecker Eastern Phoebe Blue Jay American Crow Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-breasted Nuthatch Brown Creeper Carolina Wren Golden-crowned Kinglet American Robin Brown Thrasher European Starling Eastern Towhee Song Sparrow White-throated Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco Northern Cardinal Brown-headed Cowbird House Finch American Goldfinch House Sparrow A special thanks to Jack Still who always shows up for these trips to allow us access to the nature center bird blind after filling the feeders with seed and calling in the birds (and squirrels).
