Well let me tell you about my personal big year Fayette County. I found myself
with a lot of time on my hands during the extended winter this year, and the
birding was impressive early on. I racked up some very nice finds with a good
deal of time in the field. Water fowl and birds of prey were covered quite
nicely. And the redpoll was seen. I was loving it.
Then, work picked up, gardening had to have its spot. I missed a couple
warblers that were seen, and a couple shore birds too. It was impossible as a
working person to drop and run; it became work itself; I gave it up. I might
try something like that when I retire and I think we should keep a yearly
Fayette county list as a group. But it was too much pressure for someone with
my delicate mental state. I need to enjoy birding, not make it a quest.
The moment a little boy is concerned with which is a jay and which is a
sparrow, he can no longer see the birds or hear them sing. ~Eric Berne

Subject: [birdky] Jefferson County Big Year
I was curious as to the standings in the Jefferson County Big Year with two
days left in the year. Being stuck inside with a two month old means I get my
birding fix through reading what others are seeing.
