1 adult female Surf Scoter along the riverfront at Dayton. A bit of a puzzler due to a lack of the usual cheek spots but the light nape confirmed this scoter as a surf. The bird was sleeping most of the time within the yacht club inlet. A yacht club employee suggests that birders call the number listed in the phone book under Watertown Yacht Club before coming. Another alternative would be to scope from the public path at the top of the levee, which would actually afford a better over-all view in any case. Other birds: 1 Bonaparte's Gull, 3 Ring-billed Gulls, 1 Killdeer, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 30 Mallards, 4 American Tree Sparrows, 10 Song Sparrows. Frank Renfrow Bellevue, KY
