Frank, I have begun to wonder the same thing. I’ve not seen the spot, but from
the descriptions, it does sound less than ideal.

Is it anyone’s responsibility to consider whether or not the
owl’s tameness is due to weakness? And what, if anything could be done if the
owl is getting weak? I once had an unusually tame immature Red-tailed Hawk take
up residence in my barn lot. It would perch on tobacco frames and let me walk
right up to it. Then it died. It must have failed hunting 101.
