Hello John I live about 3 counties east of where you'll be in Beattyville. I've noticed that many of our summer species arrive here mid to late April so you should have a great time during your visit during the first week of May! I'd suggest that you visit the web site for Natural Bridge State Park and see if you can get some email suggestions from their naturalists. Hopefully you will be hearing from others on this list serve that visit the Red River Gorge frequently during the summers and they can share their sightings and best locations in Powell and Menifee counties. If you are a climber, be careful. Another person fell to his death recently at the Gorge. News of note this weekend: Eastern Phoebes have begun their nest on a drain line to our cistern-about a week later than last year. Fox sparrows are still around Flicker has been grubbing in the front lawn when not tapping on anything metal he can find on our roof. :-) Happy birding, Doug Hennig Near the Magoffin, Morgan and Wolfe County "corner" near exit 60 of the Mt Parkway _____ From: birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:birdky-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dedlnr@xxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2008 9:11 AM To: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [birdky] Birding suggestions? I'll be staying in Beattyville -- on Hwy. 11, north of Booneville -- the first week in May and would appreciate any suggestions for birding locations nearby. I don't know the area, so I'd rather not travel more than 10-15 miles from the town. However, I'm not going to ignore a fabulous site if it's a few miles more away. I appreciate any help. If you respond to me directly, please note Ky. birding sites in the subject line so I know it's not junk email.
