Well everyone in central and western Ky will laugh at me, but I was excited to finally hear and see a blue grosbeak here at Yatesville Lake WMA in Lawrence County. I have lived here for almost 6 years and today was the first blue grosbeak in all that time. The singing male was located at the wetlands viewing parking area off Route 201 about 3.8 miles north of Blaine. In other bird news I visited a strip mine adjacent to Fishtrap WMA in Pike County. I could hear 5 or 6 grasshopper sparrows singing from one location. I need to go back and listen for other grassland birds.
