Sunday 9-15-02 Pat and Jane Bell, Diane Elmore and I enjoyed a spectacular day of birding at Mammoth Cave National Park. Though rain showers were present most of the morning we enjoyed perhaps one of our best days for warblers in some time. Warblers seemed to be everywhere. Numbers were exceptional also. Our list included: Blue-winged Warbler (1) Golden-winged Warbler (3+) two females, maybe two males, beautiful! Tennessee Warbler (75+) everywhere, in numbers at Echo River Spring Northern Parula (7+) two singing Chestnut-sided Warbler (50+) everywhere! Magnolia Warbler (10+) Black-throated Green Warbler (5) Blackburnian Warbler (4) Yellow-throated Warbler (1) Pine Warbler (6+) Bay-breasted Warbler (5+) CERULEAN WARBLER (1) first fall male Black-and-White Warbler (30+) multiples at a time! American Redstart (10+) Worm-eating Warbler (1) Ovenbird (1) Hooded Warbler (3) one first fall female, two males...one singing Also: Wild Turkey (30+), Black-billed Cuckoo (1), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (8) Eastern Screech-Owl, Barred Owl, White-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Summer Tanager, Scarlet Tanager.
