Wednesday 11-12-2003 Another Selasphorus hummingbird has showed up in Warren Co. in the Rich Pond area. The bird appears to be also an adult female. It has a green back, rump and no rufous in the uppertail coverts, but rufous showing at the base of the outer rectrices when fanned. Throat color is limited to a small splotch of orange in the lower center of the throat. The sides of the hummer have a soft cinnamon color. The best I could observe, it had new wing primaries (maybe 1 thru 5 or 6) which were molting back in (much darker in color and short) and the outer primaries were dull and lighter in color. The Selasphorus hummer which showed up at our yard in October is still making appearances at the flowers and feeders but is absent for long periods of the day. With the strong cold front tonight due to kill most everyone's flowers :-( these birds should be seen at the feeders on a regular schedule. Jackie B.
