It was a cold, snowy day for the 29 participants who took part in the Louisville Bird Count on Sunday, December 14. To make matters worse there were 3.3-inches of snow on the ground. The group tallied 89 species the same as last year with a total individual count of 31,845. This was an increase of about 15,000 over last year due to the count of - you guess it- the ubiquitous Startling. Some highlights were 2 Palm warblers, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 2 Lapland Longspurs, 21 Wilson Snipe, 91 Chipping Sparrows, 327 Song Sparrows, 6 Pine Siskins, 175 American Pipits, 2651 Robins, 2 Peregrine Falcons. Thanks to all who participated in this year's count. Happy Holidays to everyone and Good Birding in 2004!
