Betsy & I went out to Spindletop this Sunday to look for the Cacking Geese
reported by both Ronin O'Carra and Jim Williams. After much scanning of the
geese around the pond, we did manage to find five Cackling. There were
obviously much smaller than the rest of the Canada's there even though they did
have the white breast as the larger Canada's. This was a lifer for both Betsy
and myself. We also spent a fair amount of time looking through the large
blackbird flock. We were able to identify five species including E. Starling
(about 55% of the flock), Rusty Blackbird (20%), Brown-headed Cowbird (20%),
Red-winged Blackbird and Common Grackle (combined for about 5%). Other
sightings included:
Snow Goose
Mallard
N. Shoveler
Ring-necked Duck
Bufflehead
C. Goldeneye
Ruddy Duck
Grt Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture
Red-tailed Hawk
Am. Kestrel
Rock Pigeon
M. Dove
B. Kingfisher
Horned Lark
E. Meadowlark
House Sparrow
