Subject: ANYONE IN LEX TO HELP LOCATE INJURED RED-TAIL HAWK?
Tony and David, if you get this msg - this bird was seen yesterday (Thursday
1/26) and lady looked today and couldn't find it, but you'll see that the hawk
had a hurt wing and had to be "shoo'd" away from the road yesterday.
Unfortunately, when they're hurt, catching and securing them is the first line
of action (as we recently experienced in Frankfort.). If your Audubon chapters
have anybody who would be willing to go hunt for the bird, would be wonderful.

This Hawk was almost on the white line on the shoulder and cars were so close
that they were making him sway, it was raining, I pulled over and backed up on
the shoulder, where this sign is, I was on the outer loop and about 1 mile from
the Harrodsburg Rd. exit. There are two of these signs but I was at the first
one. The Hawk just stood there so I put the blanket out like a matador between
him and the road and herded him off the shoulder and as far back as the fence.
He didn't attempt to fly but once teetered and righted himself by sticking out
his left wing but not the right one. I went back to my car for my cell phone
and when I went back to take a photo he started to walk down along the fence
line towards Versailles Rd. Like Liz said we have looked for him but no
sightings this afternoon.

I'm fowarding thin on to you in case you know of any folks in
Lexington who might help...or look.
A workmate of mine saw a large red-tailed hawk on the side of the road
on New Circle at the Harrodsburg Rd yesterday. She ushered him to the
fence further off the road with a blanket. She's been back to look
today, as I have and haven't seen any sight of him/her. He was
spotted prior to the Harrodsburg Rd. exit sign.....about one mile
prior on the West side. His wing was apparently injured as he did not
attempt to fly.
If you be of any help we would appreciate it!

Liz, the hawk was left by the fence just to the right of where this sign is
posted, the 1st sign for Harrodsburg Rd. about 1 mile before the exit.
There
are only two places where he/she could get under the fence when I walked it
today but hardly think it could have. Nora
