Jerry,
First, sorry about Don Carrier's post. He gets that way when he hasn't been
out birding recently. Just ignore him. I do, all the time, even when he's
birding with me. Of course, sometimes it's not on purpose. Sometimes I
don't have my hearing device turned on,and don't actually hear him talking
:) That went on for about 10 minutes one day. I thought all the time he was
just mouthing words so he wouldn't scare the birds :)

Glad to hear that you and Jane are getting some new species. We haven't
seen a lot of new species recently, but in the last couple of days at the
yard stream we have had Worm-eating Warbler, Black-and-Whtie Warbler,
Scarlet Tanager, American Redstart, Yellow-breasted Chat, Baltimore Oriole,
Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher and Eastern Bluebird.

As to the chickadee on the thistle sock, I can't remember ever seeing a
chickadee do that.

Our first Purple Martins have now fledged. The first one fledged on the
12th. The last 3 of the 4 nestlings fledged today. Here is a photo of all 4
of them this morning before the last 3 took their first flight. They still
come back to the house. That's why the 4th one is in the picture with them.
So my first year with martins I have had a 100% success rate of fledging
young. Of course, when and if I get 50 or more nesting pairs like Johnnie
and Betty Ratliff do instead of just one, things may be a bit different.
