Jerry, First and foremost I'm glad the rumors of your incarceration are untrue: although I was excited about birding the facilities! It would be nice to visit you and my family at the same time! I miss my Mama. You know I'm just Kidding! You globetrotters haven't been around that much. Glad you're getting some new species. Here in Bristol the doldrums are in full swing and we get excited when one of our titmice are less than tufted! We did install a new fountain that has helped with numbers but no new species. I'm still relegated to visiting the Mayhorn's for exciting birding. That Roger just ticks me off! Glad you got bluebirds this my sixth year of moving the box and we just don't qualify. Next year I'm making the whole bigger to attract starlings! Your Carolina on the thistle is like my goldfinches on the humming bird feeders. You and Jane take care and it's about time for Cajun cooking (Hint Hint) Don Carrier _____ From: bcbirdclub-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bcbirdclub-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jerry Thornhill Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 5:50 PM To: 'Buchanan Birds' Subject: [bcbirdclub] Yard News Jane & I have had several birds and events that are unusual for us. Recently we've seen as many as 7 Cedar Waxwings in the trees and on the power line along the creek. We've had Cedar Waxwings only rarely (and usually single birds) in the past. A couple of weeks ago, we spotted Eastern Bluebirds. These were the first we've ever had. We saw them regularly and today, I discovered that they are nesting in one of our bluebird boxes that has already raised a family of Tree Swallows this year. A few days ago, Jane spotted a Scarlet Tanager, a rare visitor to our yard. Yesterday I saw a Carolina Chickadee on the thistle sock. This is the first time I've observed this species on a thistle sock. Any feedback? Jerry
