Lynda Stuart gave permission to VDGIF to trap and band Loggerhead Shrikes on
Clifton Farm. Here's a note to Lynda from Sergio Harding who's running the
project. Please note the pictures of the banded birds. If any of you
happen to spot one of the birds when you're birding Clifton, please let me
know along with bands that the bird had.

Hello Ms. Stuart,
Just wanted to follow up and thank you again for access to your Clifton
Farms property last week. We trapped and banded three loggerhead shrikes
there (attached) - two were the adults of a breeding pair with fledglings,
and the third was an adult male, also seen with fledglings but with no sign
of the female (the birds are known to split their broods once the young
fledge, so the female was probably elsewhere on site). Thank you also for
passing along Mr. Varney's contact information - he granted us access to the
Elk Garden property and we trapped and banded two additional shrikes there.
While looking at aerial photos we noticed additional habitat that looks good
for shrikes on the other side of House and Barn Mountain, abutting route 19.
Is this also part of your Clifton Farms property? I may be in touch in the
future to see about accessing Clifton Farms again for this project. Feel
free to pass this information on to Jerry Thornhill (I left him a voicemail
on May 2nd inviting him out but didn't hear back) - if he is in the Clifton
Farms or Elk Garden area with a spotting scope and happens to re-sight any
of the shrikes we banded, or any unbanded shrikes, it would be great to hear
from him. I can also provide approximate coordinates of the capture
locations if that would be useful. Thanks again.
