The Christmas Bird count for Russell country Bird Club was held yesterday, Jan 2, 2015. The event was hosted by the Thornhills and culminated with a gourmet feast at their home. 65 species were identified with the highlight being a Say's Phoebe located by Laverne Hunter and the team of Jerry and Jane Thornhill along with Peggy Herbert. This is a southwestern bird preferring a dry climate that is very rare for the eastern United States. The bird was still present as of 9:15 eastern this morning.
