Yesterday, Sunday, I had 31 species in the yard. There were 8 warbler
species: 7 Tennessees, 1 FOS female Cape May, 4 Black-and-whites, 4
Blackburnians, 2 Chestnut-sideds, 4 Black-throated Greens, 2 Worm-eating
Warblers and 3 Hooded Warblers.
Below is a photo of one of the Black-throated Green Warblers that was in our
walnut tree in the backyard.
Other birds of note were 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 3 Red-eyed Vireos, both
Red-bellied and Pileated Woodepckers, 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 3 Eastern
Bluebirds, 2 Gray Catbirds, 1 Brown Thrasher and 2 Chipping Sparrows.
One of the most unusual sights of the day was 5 Wild Turkeys thrashing
around in a dogwood tree as they ate the red dogwood berries. (photo below)
I had to stalk them to get close enough for this pic. Because the leaves
were so thick I could only see one or two at a time. If you look closely,
just to the left of the obvious turkey in the photo you can see one's eye
peeking through the foliage.
