Yesterday the FOS (First Of the Season) Lincoln's and Field Sparrows were
here in our yard. (See Photos) Today a FOS White-throated Sparrow came in.
Even though Field Sparrows are in the area year round we very seldom see
them around our place. The White-throats have spent the summer nesting up
north and are now coming down to spend the winter in our area.
We are still seeing Gray Catbirds and Scarlet Tanagers passing through. The
late date for a tanager in the area is Oct. 16. Catbirds have been found
here in the past all through the month of October with one sighting for Nov.
on the 11th. at Poplar Gap Park (Don Carrier, Roger Mayhorn). The latest
date we have for a Gray Catbird in the area was on a Breaks CBC on
December16, 2006. That one was also found at Poplar Gap Park (Lynda
Mayhorn).
