Buchanan Birders, Michelle, Chazzy and I spent a couple of hours at Beaver Knob this morning. The birding was slow but we did find about 25 species or so. The highlight was a Grasshopper Sparrow who simply ignored us while he sang from eye level in the top of a small autumn olive bush. We walked up to about 20 feet of him and watched him for several minutes with our binoculars. If only I had brought my video camera! You photographers would have loved this bird. Other birds included Meadowlarks, a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks, White-eyed Vireos, Chipping Sparrows, Field Sparrows, and Chats. Off to Guesses Fork in Hurley now for a July 4th cookout.
