Quick Tips - A Drill For Finding The Dot
"Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn, and you will."
I only wish I understood this concept at an earlier age. More listening, less
talking.
As I have worked events over the past couple of years, it has become apparent
how many learning opportunities there are if I am willing to listen.
Growing up in a family business and working shows early on, I didn't understand
how valuable the phrase "I don't know" really is. I thought I was supposed to
have all of the answers.
It could have been immaturity, insecurity, ego, or a combination of all three -
either way, it wasn't the right approach.
A few weeks back, while working an event, I was introduced to a new drill to
improve speed and performance from a red dot. This came from a rep working the
table next to me.
It was a simple drill but one that I can now show others. I may not have been
open to learning it ten years ago. I might have even pretended that I already
knew about the drill and missed out on an opportunity to learn.
It may not be a new concept but a new way to present the information in
something much easier understood.
Why do I bring this up?
As we continue to bring new shooters into our community, it's important to
educate them in a way that allows them to succeed at the range. That success is
what continues to bring them back.
Once they are comfortable, the student can become the teacher for that next
person looking for an introduction to shooting sports.
I encourage you to spend time at the range, have those conversations with
others, and you never know where that next piece of wisdom may come from.
In the meantime, be sure to give this red dot drill a try. You can practice it
in your home, and it doesn't require any special equipment.
Have a great weekend,
