Good morning and happy Friday to all!
While our Learning Center uses various text-to-speech apps to support
students in reading with learning differences, one of our teachers wants to
experiment with audiobooks for a few students he feels could use more
natural-sounding voice support while reading text. Right now, his class is
reading *The Joy Luck Club* and he has three students to whom he wants to
provide audiobooks.
We're looking for a means to do this well. We first went to Overdrive. None
of our local libraries carry *The Joy Luck Club* on audiobook on Overdrive.
Then we considered borrowing or purchasing CDs and lending out CD players
with the CDs. Only a couple local libraries have the CDs in their
collection and in those cases they are checked out, some with holds. On
ebay, there is one copy available, and we could purchase that, but it
doesn't meet our need of three copies.
We considered Audible on Amazon, but the kids don't have Amazon accounts
and we're not quite sure how to purchase for them without the titles going
into our own personal Audible accounts.
We spent a couple hours looking into this yesterday and were surprised by
how little possibilities we encountered.
