Our Summer Reading Challenge runs from July 1 until August 9.
We start to advertise in May with posters and announcements in the school
webpage and daily announcements.
Students can select up to 5 books or read all the books from the grade
level book list they will enter in.
A google review form is provided for them to complete up to 5 books. These
five review entries will be entered into the summer raffle.
We purchase about 6 prizes with a budget of $100.00. We pull names the
first week of school and give them to the coordinator who is running our
first Club. Winners are announced in the gym to the entire school and the
students pick up the prizes in the library.
The books are selected with the partnership between the Library and the
English Departments. We went through a year process to select the books
and the Library compiled the books into the lists with book covers.
We selected about 7 fiction and 7 non-fiction books for each grade level
6-12.
There is a write up on each book with instructions with a picture of the
book cover.
Slides are made of each of the books and video taped by slide in Canva so
students can listen to the presentation of the Summer Reading Challenge.
Yes, I did this for 7 grade levels.
We will be going in our 4th year in the Summer Reading Challenge. Next
school year is when the English department and the Library start to
evaluate the books to take out and add new ones.

1000 minutes by the end of the summer gets a certificate, a book pass to be
able to check out double the number of allowed books, and a B&N gift

We usually only have a handful of students who participate.
