Our admin doesn't want the parents being inundated with emails, but I will
see if I can get that idea approved. Seems to be working for a lot of
people.

Our room parents email a reminder to the parents the night before library
time.
Students turn in their books at the start of the day to their teachers,
and then their teachers bring all the books in when it is time for library
class.
I enter the parent/guardian email addresses in the system and send overdue
notices once a week.
I also give a list to the teachers of the students who have overdue books
so that they can talk to the parents.
If a student continues to lose books, I will talk with the student and
possibly with their parent/guardian about how we can help the student to be
able to borrow and return his/her books. In one case, I asked a student to
keep the library book at school in her cubby.
