I love Ruth Reichl’s food/food writing memoirs. Garlic and Sapphires is my
favorite, about being the NYT restaurant critic in the 90’s. Amazing
descriptions, but also tackles issues of sexism, ageism, and her
mission/struggles to introduce food from non-white cultures into the public
eye. I taught it for years in my creative writing class.
