The Language Arts teacher and I haven't had the bandwidth to work out the
summer reading list, but we'll be getting to it very soon.
Last summer, rising 8th graders all read Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel
Nayari and had to select one other non-fiction or historical fiction book.
We suggested these, but they could pick their own. We bought the book for
them if they decided before the last week of school.

Rising 7th graders all read What Is Poetry? The Essential Guide to Reading
and Writing Poems by
Michael Rosen. They also had to select a fiction book from this list and we
bought the book for them.

Ellen Outside the Lines by A.J. Sass
Rising 6th graders selected 2-3 books each from a different genre (fiction,
non-fiction, mystery, etc.) and shared their "reading playlist" with the
class as a poster or slideshow.

reads that teachers have students read during the summer. Each year we have
one specific book for each grade along with a few others as free choice. I
work with the Humanities team to figure out what these books are. This year
I'm at a loss and could use some great ideas.
