Hi Daina- Do you have empty places indoors or out? Likewise do you know ahead of time whether you'll be sharing the space or not? If both are true--and if the weather is good-you could have an on-campus 'field trip story' in a nearby place outdoors. I let students know that subsequent field trip read-alouds are a possibility for classes that respect the privilege. If you are choosing a story that relates to something the students are doing in class, or if the story relates to any aspect of where you go, all the better. It is also useful to make up a fall-back list of places you might read with allied stories set aside, in case sharing is sprung on you. For example: By our fishpond: PS Gone Fishing by Long K Fish is Fish by Lionni 2 A Fish in His Pocket by Cazet 4 The Boy Who Made Dragonfly by Hillerman Kitchen: 1 Yoko by Wells 1 Thunder Cake by Polacco 2 A Grain of Rice by Demi 4 Kaddo's Wall by Courlander By the Field 5 Corn Dolly by Terry Jones (or also by the fireplace in the living room) And of course, any non-fiction that ties to the site! Hi Daina, half of our library is a classroom for 3different periods of the day. When another class needs to use the library we often have 2 classes at the same time. On occasion we have even had 3 classes in the library at the same time. What kinds of tips or work around are you looking for? This is not two teachers co-teaching a single class, but rather two separate classes of students being taught separate subjects in the same room. I would love to brain storm ideas and work-arounds if anyone else is working with this. When I have activities or read-alouds planned for my classes it is often too loud and chaotic to feel like it is any way meaningful to the students and I think everyone comes out frustrated. I am at a K-8 school, but the simultaneous classes are in the K-5 range. Thanks, Daina
