Hi, Jennifer,
These are older "classics" now, but would *Walk Two Moons*, by Sharon
Creech, *Because of Winn Dixie*, by Kate DiCamillo, the *Joey Pigza* series
by Jack Gantos, * Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH* or *Tuesday* by David
Wiesner, be good fits for what you need? A more current and wonderful story
is *The One and Only Ivan*, by Katherine Applegate. And this title is
getting rave reviews, with a release date of early March of this year, *We're
Not From Here*, by Geoff Rodkey.
Best,
Mary Ann

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping once again to tap into the collective wisdom of the group. I
am trying to come up with a list of books for our 5th graders in which the
main character undergoes some sort of "transformation." Preferably
realistic fiction/historical fiction, and of course, I'd like to bring in
some DE&I.
There's a lot I already read to them around the themes of identity and
being an immigrant or being "multi-ethnic." I like that thread but also
would like some others too.
Thank you in advance!
