Tanya Lee is the host, visionary, and producer behind A ROOM OF YOUR OWN.
This specialized web show is a combination of education and entertainment to
form edutainment.
Intimately observing and studying the world of teens, she realized that the
choices one makes when one is young affect the rest of one's life. Most
adults seem to forget that their adolescent years were hard. These years are
the hardest because at such a young age one does not have the most effective
medium to communicate feelings, frustrations, and fears, or the
sophistication to handle most problems being faced. Lee states "Not only
have I studied it, I have lived it. I am a survivor of sexual abuse; I came
from a dysfunctional family, and by the time I was 18 I became pregnant. At
19 I was a teenage mom with no money, and my options were limited". Tanya
realized the difficulties she faced, and knows the importance of teaching
young teens the skills of how to cope with the hardships of maturing
mentally and physically into adulthood.
Trying to adjust to societal pressures such as living up to fashion
standards, which include designer labels and also the obsession of young
teenage girls trying to portray the media images of models and fashion.
Another major factor is learning how to deal with school environments
including: social media, peer pressure, abuse, drugs, alcohol, gangs, crime,
sex and stereotypes, plus many more issues, all of which come forth with
such a thrust for most teens. Who do they have to turn to but their parents?
In today's society both parents are often working to maintain the family. In
addition, not all parents are good communicators with their teens. Most
alcohol and drug addictions start in the adolescent years. Statistically,
all major social and psychological problems originate in pre-pubescent and
pubescent years. This is due to ineffective methods of coping with social
and personal problems. Why not teach the skills that will help future adults
make correct choices through edutainment? A ROOM OF YOUR OWN is a
specialized web show that is the leader in edutainment.
Why a web show? Why this show?
Tanya is a graduate of York University's Psychology program, has studied
Motion Picture Production at Ryerson Polytechnic University and is currently
enrolled at George Brown in the Life Skills Certificate program. Tanya is
scheduled to graduate in December 2016.
Lee states that this web program combines her compassion for teens, employs
her appreciation of all forms of multi-media, and social media which allows
her to exercise her drive as an artist and knowledge of human behaviour as
host of A ROOM OF YOUR OWN. Lee plans to capture her audience by the web
persona of being their big sister, the one you turn to at all times.
WHAT IS A ROOM OF YOUR OWN?
This show is an action-packed fully convergent interactive multimedia/
social media web show, targeted primarily at teen girls (12-17 year of age)
of all races and ethnic backgrounds. Allowing them to express their
curiosity, ambitions, hopes and frustrations, A ROOM OF YOUR OWN is a forum
to share fun, feelings, and opinions with role models. This new generation
talk web show will be 60 minutes in length and be once a month. The show's
chief objectives are to have fun, and give teens what they need (and not
what adults think they want).
WHAT HAPPENS ON A ROOM OF YOUR OWN?
This fully convergent interactive multimedia/social media web show for the
new generation of teenage girls will discuss all subject matters that
pertains to being young and maturing into adulthood via today's standards
and pressures. This unique web show will choose a teen novel and discuss the
subject matters of the story line and the relevance to teen lives. This show
will not be intimidated by any subject matter! We will choose a novel every
month to discuss issues pertaining to teen girls and their lives. We will
have the author present along with a specialist in the particular area of
field that we are discussing. The novel will be a doorway into the lives of
teen girls.
WHERE DOES A ROOM OF YOUR OWN TAKE PLACE?
Unique locations at first will be chosen across Toronto. We then hope to
travel with this web show across North America.
