As far as presidents go Franklin D. Roosevelt has consistently ranked in the top three. Besides being the longest-serving of all the presidents, Roosevelt was in office for more than a decade until his death. He was re-elected four times during one of the most tumultuous periods of the 20th century. His radical, big-government spending program designed to kick-start the US economy became global consensus after the Second World War, but it was widely mistrusted before the conflict.
