[AZ-Observing] Re: solar image today...

Wayne, I think the seeing was really bad here Sunday with all the wind.  The
rest of the previous week may not have been too bad.  Normally, proms dont
relate to sunspots.
Clear Skies,

Chris

That's interesting because the seeing in SoAZ has been quite good for the past
week, including last night. I was able to resolve a couple stars listed down to
about 0.5 arcsecs in Orion with my 13-in f/5 unguided Dobsonian reflector (not
really a double star instrument, but it has good optics). Though the doubles
were not quite at the diffraction limit of that scope I was still very pleased
to be able to see doubles with less than one arcsecond separation.

Chris, I was wondering if that triple sunspot group is the one that is
responsible for the nice prominence that Tom caught the other day.

Clear skies,
Wayne (aka Mr. Galaxy)

Yeah, the seeing tonight Im sure will be awful too. Yes, put a barlow on so
you can extend the focal point and the DMK or web cam will then come to focus!
Clear Skies,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Not bad considering the conditions! I was out shooting that group in white
light and the seeing was so poor that the sunspots looked more like a bunch
of ameba in a drop of water under a microscope! (needless to say, the
stacked image is a mess!)

As far as the gear setup, is it simply a matter of dropping a 2x Barlow
into the PST and adding the camera? I have the PST, a Shorty and a standard
Barlow, plus a DFK 41AU02.AS. If so, I would just need to piggyback the
PST on the back of the CGE.

Thank you,

Jimmy Ray

HI all,
Just took this image of the neat three sunspot group under what can be best
described as "extremely windy" conditions. Seeing was poor, but the group
is tantalizing:
