Anyone else see the brilliant bolide tonight, about 9:56 PM MST? I was
just leaving work (in Flagstaff) and looking due south out of my car
windshield and saw a -10 to -12 magnitude brilliant bolide, starting about
12-15 degrees up in the south and headed due south. It was initially
blue-white with a small tear-drop shape, then changed to brilliant emerald
green. It briefly passed behind a thin cirrus cloud, which glowed green
from the light, reappeared below it, and then disappeared at the horizon
(about a degree above a level horizon). My wild guess would be it probably
was overhead somewhere in central to south central Arizona.
My time may be off for a few minutes. I looked at my phone for the time
right after it happened, but then in thinking about how spectacular it was,
later on couldn't remember the exact minute.
I really need to get a dashcam to record these sorts of things...!
