Thad; I have not explored anything else that SAC could use for a large star = party, but I have no doubt that there are some choices. Years ago, I went = north off of the Sentinel exit, toward Aqua Caliente. There are no turnoffs = from the pavement that I could find for 8 or 10 miles from the freeway. But, = we can try some other possibilities; I have never looked between Vekol and Sentinel. Or, driving on past the Sentinel turnoff. There are some = lights from Dateland that direction. I also think that we need to try the site that David Fredericksen and I found south of I-10 off of Hovatter Road. It is two miles south from = the freeway and is a big desert pavement, like Sentinel. We have not had a chance to try that spot on a clear night, but that needs to be done = also. We can keep trying; Steve Coe -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Thad Robosson Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 3:42 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: The future of the Sentinel Star Gaze Steve and all, Unfortunately, it does need to be talked about. I've heard from many=20 different sources that I-8 is often the goal of the illegals, and if we=20 could get North of I-8, then we should be just fine. I'm not against a = few=20 lights from campers, they can't be any worse than a 10 ^2156 candlepower = spotlight, and the lack of explaining ourselves to freindly border patrols agents would be fine too. Have you explored other areas North of I-8, or is that it? Anyone have = other ideas to check out?
