For what it's worth, I found 675 zinc-air hearing aid batteries real cheap once
at Walgreens. Of course, these have a short shelf life once they're opened,
but I was surprized how long they lasted. Plus, their AH capacity is higher
than all of the LR44 and 357 types.

Subject: [AZ-Observing] Slow astro day - battery replacement

It seems like the price of button-cell batteries has been slowly increasing
(perhaps even faster). Anyone using an illuminated reticle eyepiece, or other
device, that has inadvertently left the switch in the "on" position will soon
be shopping for a replacement battery.

Battery models LR44, A76, and SR44SW are direct equivalents and are usually
sold individually at $2-$4 apiece. My reticle eyepiece takes two of the LR44
batteries so replacing them can be costly. In the fishing department, Walmart
sells a dual pack of LR44 batteries for $1.96 that illuminate a bobber they
sell that facilitates nighttime fishing. In a pinch, the LR44 can even be used
short-term to replace a 357 battery (LR44 has a lower mAh capacity).

I saw a portion of Cygnus the other night, so perhaps we'll be able to
resurrect viewing again - and afford ourselves the opportunity to inadvertently
leave battery-operated devices in the "on" position when they should be "off."
