Observing from my driveway tonight I saw something that was unexpected and really cool. At about 9:20 local time one of Jupiter's moons (later found to be Io) was getting close to the planet's disk. I decided to wait a few minutes and watch it disappear. Instead, it moved right in front of a cloud band and continued to transit Jupiter. The little white disk was visible for over half an hour. Isn't it great to observe this sort of thing by accident? -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
